The Book Nook is a special place I created for you to take some time for yourself, sit down with a cup of tea and read a review of a book I personally recommend. Each month I will discuss a new book on varying topics such as cooking, design, spirituality, gardening and more.
The Book Nook Review
February 2023
With a taste of spring this past week, I am in full garden planning mode. A book I bought last year is one that I refer to quite often. Grow All You Can Eat in 3 Square Feet is the perfect book for container gardens, deck and balcony gardens, small raised beds and even inside gardens.
I have a sloped backyard surrounded by very large trees. It gets good sun late morning through the afternoon in the spring to early summer, but then late day sun in the late summer to fall. Because of this I tend to do more container gardening on my deck and this book provides great inexpensive ideas.
Did you know that planting marigolds with tomatoes helps to keep pesky bugs away? There is a section on different companion plants that help each other mutually. Not only that but certain insects are wanted to help pollinate your garden such as bees. Yes, they cover this as well.
This book gives tips on how to understand your light and soil for maximum benefits. It even gives a list of crops and what type of containers/beds they grow well in. If you are not a proficient gardener, don’t have a green thumb or are tapped for space, I highly recommend this book.
