These Pumpkin pet treats are wholesome all natural treats you can make for your pets!
Do you like to shower your pet(s) with treats? I sure do and my bunnies love when I do! With 6 bunnies though, baking my own treats is not only way more economical, I can also control what ingredients go into them. Similar to my Valentine Bunny Heart Treats, these pumpkin treats are especially easy with just two ingredients! That’s right! 2!
Now, because I am not using rabbit pellets or hay dust in this recipe, these can be given to any pet that can tolerate pumpkin and oats.
The Method of Pumpkin Pet Treats
- oat flour
These pumpkin pet treats start with pumpkin. Now you can purchase pie pumpkins at your market, cook them and puree them or you can buy canned pumpkin. Just make sure it is not pumpkin pie filling. Next you will need oat flour. I find this to be expensive if you purchase it, but making your own is super simple. Fill your food processor with Old Fashioned Oats and whirl away until a flour is formed. Store in a lidded cannister.
Place some pumpkin in a bowl and keep adding flour a little at a time until the consistency of dough is formed. Roll the dough out on parchment paper and slice into squares, use tiny cookie cutters or small shaped baking trays. If baking on a cookie sheet, line it with parchment paper.
Bake at 250-75 for 45 minutes. If you have a dehydrator, transfer parchment with treats and dehydrate 3-4 hours until hard and crunchy. Don’t panic if you don’t have a dehydrator, turn the oven down to 200 and continue baking 2-3 hours.
tips for success:
Make treats the size your pet should eat. Bunny treats should be tiny, but a dog’s treat could be bigger.
Store in a glass container with a lid away from direct sun. Do not Refrigerate.
